A Cameroonian-American journalist, Simon Ateba, has faulted the US Secret Service over its handling of the cocaine discovery at the White House.
The cocaine was discovered earlier this month in a storage area of the West Wing where visitors taking tours must leave their mobile phones.
President Joe Biden and his family were not in the White House when the discovery was made.
Days ago, the Secret Service announced it was closing its investigation into the discovery after its efforts to determine a suspect through fingerprints, DNA traces, and video evidence were unsuccessful.
Reacting via a tweet on Tuesday, Ateba, who is the owner and White House correspondent of the website Today News Africa, said the Secret Service’s action was “disheartening”.
He wrote, “What a disgrace! It is truly disheartening to think that the most powerful secret service in the world was unable to determine who brought cocaine into the most secure building on the planet. It is equally disgraceful that the @WhiteHouse commended a superficial investigation that yielded no suspects.
“It is astonishing that a nation capable of tracking down Osama Bin Laden in his Pakistani hideout and apprehending some of the most notorious criminals worldwide would struggle to identify the culprit responsible for smuggling cocaine into a facility equipped with more surveillance cameras than the majority of structures on Earth.
Furthermore, it is a profound disappointment that a country renowned for its advancements in artificial intelligence, the creation of Google, the development of the atomic bomb, and numerous other groundbreaking innovations of our time would suddenly falter in uncovering the individual responsible for bringing drugs into the White House.
“This situation is truly difficult to comprehend, leading many individuals to suspect a potential cover-up. May God help us!”
