Oyo State Government Launches Uninterrupted Power Supply at State Secretariat

2 Min Read

The Oyo State Government has officially launched an uninterrupted power supply at the state Secretariat in Ibadan. This milestone follows the activation of the 11-megawatt Ibadan Hybrid Power Project, inaugurated earlier this month by Governor Seyi Makinde.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, announced the development on Tuesday in a statement issued in Ibadan. According to Oyelade, the secretariat and its surrounding areas, including all ministries, departments, and agencies, the secretariat clinic, the State House of Assembly, and the Governor’s Office, are now benefiting from an uninterrupted power supply.

Oyelade described this achievement as a fulfillment of Governor Makinde’s promise to establish power independence for the state. He explained that the first phase of the project is a 5MW integrated power plant that combines solar power and natural gas. This hybrid power project, commissioned by the governor earlier this month, is now operational.

The next phase of the project will extend uninterrupted power supply to other critical facilities, including selected schools, Adeoyo and Ring Road Hospitals, the High Court complex, and Adamasingba Stadium. Oyelade noted that the project is being executed through a partnership between the Oyo State Government’s Ministry of Energy and a private energy conglomerate under a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer model.
